Xiuying Chang was the first one awake after a good night sleep which she had for about 14 days since the stone mason had finished the tombstone and she had learned how to find the local grave place so she could pray for them every morning and today was not any different. She stood up, got dressed and started finding her way to the temple. As she got out of the house, the air felt different from other days but it had been hot the past week so guess it was just rain which waited for the chance to get as much wet as possible so she started walking through the almost empty streets. It was all quite on her way, too quiet perhaps but she didn’t mind as she had to say good morning to her parents and tell them about her plans for the day. Suddenly a pair hands grabbed around her and pulled her from the road, she tried to scream help but before she could react a hand covered it. “I am sorry” the voice said and Xiuying Chang knew it as the stone mason and started to fear the worst from last time she had been alone with him. She tried to get free from his hands but he just held her tighter. “Relax, I am not going to hurt you… actually I am protecting you” he didn’t managed to say more before voice of soldier started screaming commands flew to the air before explosion covered it all. Xiuying Chang tried get her focus back after the explosion and could soon feel her eyes fill up with tears but the mason’s hands was still covering her mouth so she could not scream. “Please be quite, I am trying keep you safe” suddenly another explosion hit and this time Xiuying Chang blacked out. She woke up to people screaming and the hands of the mason being soft. She tried to find his head but started to scream loudly when she found it covered it some liquid which only could be blood.
It is all quiet as Xiuying Chang open her eyes but as she try to left up her arms to stretch them, they won’t move at all and a bird start singing at a low volume which slowly grows. Xiuying Chang tries to move the rest of her body but nothing in her body seems to work, suddenly she remember the attack and the explosions. “What happened to me?” She thinks loud with no voice at all which scares her even more so her eyes starts filling with tears of fear and sadness as she have no idea of what happen to her, the others or her world for that matter. Suddenly something appears in the edge of her eyes which makes the tears run faster as she finds out she can see but the happy tears quickly turns in scared tears as the thing that comes closer are as far from alive as possible as it is a walking rotten corpse. She tries to move again but nothing helps and the corpse comes closer and closer. She tries screaming again but even she can feel her mouth movement, no voice leaves her mouth and suddenly it hits her that the only sound is coming form the bird and it is started to get on a disturbing level. Her focus on the bird makes her lose focus on the corpse and it is like the bird is telling her something with it’s high voice but just as she was about to hear words in the singing a hand touched her and with all her power she tried to scream and movement but it did not help and soon the corpse kissed her and spoke with a deep and far from friendly voice “I will be waiting for you” and in the next he, the bird and her vision was gone and she could hear Jun Chen talking to Yi Cheng about her but she was to happy to be in the real world to listen to what they said.
Ling Wang could feel the movements from the horse as she slowly woke up after the crazy events doing the night. She opened her eyes and watched as the ground moved quickly below as her senses started to wake up too. She could feel the tears starting to press on and soon they started to fall but before her mind was able to think about why, a heavy pain started to feel hear body and she started to scream loudly which surprised both the horse and Jiahao Wang who tried to control the horse while making sure that Ling Wang was not hurt by the horse. Finally he managed to stop the horse and step off the horse before trying to calm Ling Wang down so she would stop screaming but her pains was too heavy to just stop quickly and the screaming got worse as she started to notice blood leaving her belly. Jiahao Wang tried to think in the noise but he had a hard time getting ideas plus he worried if any evil would find them before they could continue on their trip to the palace. It had been a while since he last had been there but he knew they were not far from it so if they just could get there without scaring too many civilians they would be safe at the emperor. He took a deep breath to block out the sound and then took Ling Wang of the horse and started to hold her like a little child to make her feel safe so it was not the reason for her to scream. It took the worst of the sceaming and soon he could lay her on the grass as he started searching in the pockets on the horse for some fabrics he could use to make a new bandage even he knew it would become better when they would appear at the palace but maybe the screams would stop for good if he did that. He found a piece of bread that they had not eaten the even before and put it her mouth to block the screaming and soon after he had found a nice fabric which had been a gift for Ling Wang’s mother Ning Wang but there was no use for it. He started gentle to change the bandage and with every run around the belly the screams got lower and soon Ling Wang was quiet and only breathing heavy except for the few times that he had to touch the injuries. Ling Wang looked at him and even she did not say a word, he knew that she were thanking him for what he had down so far. As he was done he kissing her forehead before replying “Try not to scream when I lift you on the horse again, my child” Ling Wang got so confused about the my child that she just nodded in agreement and almost did not notice that he moved her even she at first landed on the wound. “Tell me when and where it hurts next time without screaming as we are not on safe ground yet but soon” he continued before he slowly started walking with the horse by focusing it way holding a tight grip in the harness and soon they were back on the trip to the emperor’s palace.
Ling Wang wakes up in her bed with a set and look around and on herself with quick movements but cannot find any of the injuries she had from the fight, she just had with the soldiers but before she can think more about it, her mother enters her room with a smile on her face “You are up, cherry” and before Ling Wang can reply she continues “Look who is home” and in comes her father also smiling “You were so sleepy that you did not meet me at the hill we had agreed on” he continued like he knew what her mother was going to say. Ling Wang ran over to give her father a big hug and felt warmer inside, she wanted to tell him about her dream about the attack and the soldiers and the rest of her dream but she did not want to scary them with that so she decided to wait. It got warmer and warmer inside the room and Ling Wang could not find out where the heat was coming from but decided that it much had been all the energy she used to be with her father now was back. They walked out in the morning sun but there was no birds singing in the sky which confused her even more. She ran in the front to tell people about that her father was now home but she could not find any people either so she got even more and more confused and then she turned around and turned into stone as her house and the rest of the town was in fire but her parents just walked against her like nothing was happening. “Mom, dad?” she managed to speak before they were at her side quicker than the wind with a sword in their hands which they held against her “You was going to deliver the message to the emperor” her mother started with an evil dry voice. “You should have been a boy” her father continued with the same evil dry voice as the mother. Ling Wang tried to run away but her feet had turned into rocks and the evil voice continued “You are a failure”, “We don’t love you”, “We never cared about you”, “You was never our daughter” Ling Wang started to cry because of all the hard things they said against her but in the middle of it an gentle voice started to appear “Wake up”, “Wake up“ it repeated over and over which made her former parents started to cut in her and she could feel the pain grow bigger and bigger. Suddenly a big hand appeared in the sky and pushed her parents away before taking her up from the ground and in the next second Ling Wang looked into a face of an old man. Confused and scared from the dream she started screaming and crying loud before the old man held a gentle hand over her mouth. “You are safe here, it was just a nightmare” he spoke like the gentle voice in the dream.
The sun raised up behind the mountains as it had done many times and nothing in it’s light knew what groundbreaking day it would so the birds was singing and the sun was all alone on the sky. Ling Wang woke up as she felt the warmth hit her but she did not look out of the windows like many others would have done on this beautiful day as she was blind and even she liked the warmth form the sun, she preferred the rain as the drops of rain made her feel far more alive. Ling Wang got dressed which was a new thing for her as normally she would have been getting help from the servants of the family but lately she have been having more feelings with herself and had learned to get dressed by herself. It had started after the day her father, general of the north, Xiao Wang and the other men had left the town to go out training themselves where she had found herself in her parents room which was normal even for her but a power she could not described had forced her hands to open the doors of her father’s closet where she have found a sword she did not knew about even that her father had told her about his swords and other weapons before. As she had touched it a power had filled her body with energy and she had gotten the feeling that she wanted to train with it even she had never done anything like that before. The first days she had cut herself and she had to make up stories so the servants and her mother did not know that she was training with a sword as her mother was very scared of weapons as they had once made a great friend lose his wife in the hands of an evil man. This was one of the reason the men was always somewhere else to train instead of the town as Xiao Wang wanted to keep her from the nightmares that followed the weapons. This was why Ling Wang also was confused on why the sword had been in her father’s closet and why she did not know about it. Ling Wang took the sword from under her bed as she had prepared herself and then slowly she started to sneak out to her favourite place where she hoped her father would find her first so he could she how good she have become with a sword on her own.
There are many types of stories, some are well known, others have turned into fairy tales, which again have turned into legends while others died out and gets forgotten again. Let me ask you this? Does stories have to being told between people for a million times to become legends or be hundreds of years old. I don’t know your answer, but this story will be my answer as this story took place just as much in the past as in our time, so for me it is one of those stories which maybe are told to people, but not remembered as a story as it doesn’t grow big but I still feel it is a story which needs to be told so let’s begin at the beginning.
The sun had gone to bed so the sky should’ve been dark, but the moon was full giving, it is light to the people on the streets of Taipei, Taiwan together with the stars, but they were not alone on the sky as hundreds of sky flowers colored the sky in millions of colors like it was daylight. Rockets flew to the sky before ending with a big bang and spread out red balls of light together with the smaller but still powerful batteries. People were celebrating New Year’s Eve like there was no tomorrow and in every apartment and house their was a party, except for Ning Wang’s apartment even she had done her best to make it a party, her grandfather had already told her to go to bed even it was only 8.57pm. She looked at the clock and counted down to 9pm as she knew she was not going to stay up all the way to 12am like all the others. A door opened up behind her and the light from the hall entered the room and the shadow of an old man followed. The old man was her grandfather, Jiahao Wang and she had been living with him for as long she could remember and when she tried to ask about her parents or other family she had just been told the hard truth. They were all killed in an accident, a car accident if she remembered right. “I am 8 years old now, I wanna watch the fireworks all night, ” she yelled with a begging sweet voice which left her grandfather standing in the door speechless and just watch the fireworks in the windows behind her. “She is like her mother when she was at that age, never going to bed…” his thought was interrupted by heavy the heavy bell from the clock telling the time had passed 9pm and time for bed for Ning Wang.
